Kehrwieder Kreativbrauerei from Hamburg

Kreativbrauerei Kehrwieder is one of the first German craft beer breweries. Since 2012, they have been brewing diverse, drinkable and unusual beers in the south of the Hanseatic city.

Brewer and Kehrwieder mastermind Oliver Wesseloh has worked in breweries in South and Central America, among other places, after completing his training as a graduate engineer in brewing, but most recently in the USA, more precisely in Miami, Florida. He still draws on this wealth of experience today. He experienced the American craft beer culture firsthand for many years, and with these impressions he made his way back to Hamburg in 2011.

In the game from the start

With this background, it's hardly surprising that the approach to recipe development is completely different from the conventional one. What is allowed is what pleases. And, of course, what tastes good! Anything but boring beer! Kehrwieder has brewed many well-known and lesser-known beer styles, paving the way for other craft beer breweries, not in Hamburg, but throughout Germany.

Today, the creative brewery Kehrwieder has already won several international awards and beers like the Prototyp, a drinkable India Pale Lager, their IPA series SHIPA (Single Hop IPA, always brewed with a new hop) or the ü.NN, a non-alcoholic IPA, are indispensable in the German Craft Beer world.

In addition, there are many other great beers from Kehrwieder. In addition to Pale Ales and IPAs, dark beer styles such as Baltic Porter, Imperial Stout, and Barley Wine form an integral part of the brewery's range. They also keep releasing limited brews that have been aged in different wooden barrels - sometimes for more than two years!

Beyond the beer

Kehrwieder is a living craft. Together with his wife Julia and his small team, Oliver Wesseloh produces the Kehrwieder beers largely by hand. Craft beer in the original sense. The brewery is also a training company and obtains its energy from renewable sources.

It's hard to imagine the Hamburg beer scene without the brewery. It is part of the Senatsbock community and in many restaurants and bars you can get Kehrwieder beer fresh from the tap. They are also involved in various social projects and regularly donate to good causes.
