Latvia is perhaps still a bit under the radar as a beer destination. But that is slowly changing. The country in the Baltic region has a lively craft beer scene. And with Arpus, one of the hottest IPA breweries at the moment comes from Latvia!

Latvian Craft Beer between Tradition and Modernity

The capital city of Riga has some great spots for craft beer. Not only bars and taprooms, but also many restaurants carry locally brewed beer. Latvia brews many modern Craft Beer styles such as IPA, Pale Ale or Stout, but at the same time local traditions are maintained and many breweries brew Latvian Farmhouse Ales or Mead. Similar to neighboring Estonia, many beers in Latvia are brewed with exceptional local and regional ingredients from the country's natural environment.

Arpus Brewery from Riga is now in the first class for Hazy IPAs, Double NEIPAs and New England Pale Ales in Europe. Characteristic of Arpus' craft beer are their single hop series; mostly they brew a Pale Ale, an IPA and a Double IPA with the same hops. So you can wonderfully observe the changes in taste!

Besides Arpus, the most famous breweries from Latvia are Labietis, Malduguns, Nurme and Hopalaa.
