Brauerei Knoblach Schammelsdorf

Top-quality lagers, a beer garden where you can unwind, and great Franconian cuisine. What more could you ask for? The Knoblach brewery keeps the beer culture alive in Franconia! Their beers are simply delicious and great examples of the great brewing art that can always be found in the region around Bamberg.

Franconian Beer Mecca

Franconian Switzerland is known for its high density of breweries - the greater Bamberg area is even said to have had the highest in the world until the 1960s - and the epicenter is in and around Bamberg. The city is virtually the beer metropolis, not only of Franconia, but of all of Germany. The city's best-known breweries are Schlenkerla and Spezial. In addition, there are Mahrs Bräu, Fässla, Zum Sternla or Keesmann. But that's really just the tip of the iceberg.

Change of location: Schammelsdorf, near Bamberg. Here, in the middle of Franconia's beer country and on the so-called "Oberfränkische Bierstraße" great beer has been brewed since about 1880. The short detour is not only worthwhile because of the beer. But also, Franconia is also known for the wonderful beer garden and of course the Franconian cuisine! Add to that a Knoblach beer from the Seidla and the day is perfect!

Schammelsdorf tradition

The Knoblach family has been in Schammelsdorf since much earlier than 1880. In that year, they added an inn to their agricultural business in the village. This is the birth of the Knoblach brewery. While at first the guests were supplied with bought-in beer, this was to change rapidly.

In the course of time, four beers developed, which are now available all year round from the brewery. All of them have an exceptionally drinkable character, although the styles differ significantly in detail:

  • Knoblach Brewery's classic is Räuschla, an amber-colored Märzen with a pleasantly malty and sweet character.
  • The Ungespundete Lager (Schammelsdorfer lager) convinces with its mix of notes of lager yeast, a soft mouthfeel, sweetish malt aromas and a pleasant hop bitterness in the finish.
  • Dark Landbier is a dark lager with round malt notes of chocolate, toasted bread and caramel.
  • A classic Hefeweizen completes the range. The perfect refreshment in the beer garden! Super banana-y, with notes of clove, citrus and honey. And: insanely smooth in the mouth.

In addition, Knoblach brews a few seasonal specials throughout the year: In winter, there is a Rauchbier (Schammelsdorfer Rauchsüdla), in fall the Stammberg Bock, in summer the Helles Sommerbier, in spring the Urmärzen.

Rooted in the region

Many ingredients come from the region. The brewery attaches great importance to this. Incidentally, the same applies to the fruit for their Ostbrände - the brewery also runs a distillery on the side.

Knoblach Brewery means living Franconian beer culture and tradition. Pure craftsmanship, not only in brewing and distilling, but also in the kitchen. Hospitality is a top priority in the inn and beer garden. So anyone traveling in the Bamberg area should definitely visit the Knoblach brewery, as well as one or two other breweries!
