Sour Ale
Refreshing, complex and diverse, Sour Ale is great craft beer to discover! Sour Ale acts here as a collective term for different sour beers, which are not spontaneously fermented lambic beers from Belgium. Whether pure, on different fruits or aged in wooden barrels - Sour Ales will expand your horizons!
Sour Ale - a fantastic complex beer style
This category unites beers that are soured with lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus), Pediococcus or with citric acid. On this basis, fruit is often added to these beers. Other sour ales are produced in more complex processes. For example, the beers made by the German brewery Kemker Kultuur. The brewery uses its own house yeast, made up of different types of yeast, to ferment its beers.
Their Aoltbeer series regularly features great and complex sour ales brewed in a historic style. They are aged in red wine barrels and often on regional fruit.
Sour Ale and Food Pairing
Kemker Kultuur's beers are incredibly versatile when it comes to food pairing. You can easily plan them as a substitute for a wine in a food accompaniment. But that doesn't really do them justice, because the beers can do so much more and behave completely differently than wine when it comes to food pairing.
