A style-defining beer, unchanged for over 65 years. A classic of the Belgian beer landscape!
The Tripel from Westmalle is a pale, golden Trappist beer brewed from Pilsner malt and light candy sugar. The yeast used is very aromatic and produces a complex beer with a fruity aroma and a spicy phenolic nose. This beer is mild and creamy in the mouth.
In addition to the slow and gentle brewing process, bottle fermentation contributes to the unique character of this Tripel.
The Pioneer of the Tripel Beer Style
The Westmalle Tripel is considered the origin of all Tripels in Belgium. It was first brewed in 1934 at the Trappist Abbey of Westmalle, on the occasion of the inauguration of the then new brewing hall. After minor adjustments, the recipe for this beer has remained unchanged since 1956. It has influenced countless breweries and beers. The iconic diamond-shaped label is known worldwide and represents the brewing art of Trappist beers like hardly any other design.
Westmalle Tripel as a Food Companion
Apart from the Trappistenkaas produced at the abbey, the Westmalle Tripel pairs wonderfully with many different dishes:
- Grilled white asparagus
- Mussels
- Vanilla cream with strawberries
- Pelmeni with various fillings (meat, potatoes, mushrooms) and sour cream
