Hofbräu Oberle – Carp, Kellerbier, and Franconian Craftsmanship

Hofbräu Oberle is a charming nano-brewery located in Erlangen-Kosbach, right in the heart of Franconia – the most brewery-dense region in the world. Behind the project stands Peter Oberle, whose family has been running a carp fishery in the area for more than 360 years. The idea to brew his own beer came to him during a fishery internship in Australia – and in November 2017, the first wort ran through the brewhouse next to the family restaurant "Die Fischerei".

Since 2018, brew- and maltmaster David Achatz has been in charge of the kettle. With an annual output of around 600 hectoliters, Hofbräu Oberle is a true nano-brewery – but with all the more character in the glass. Since 2022, it has also been an officially recognized training facility for the brewing and malting trade.

The flagship is the Hofbier: an amber-hued, malt-driven Kellerbier in the finest Franconian Landbier tradition – smooth, full-bodied, and naturally cloudy. The lineup further includes a fruity Weizen, the crisp Peterla (Helles lager), and a hop-forward Fränkisches Pils with a green-hop note. Seasonally rotating beers include the Festbier, Bergbier, and the Cyprinus Weihnachtsbock – named after the Latin word for carp, the Oberle family's heraldic animal.
