Jahrhundert Bier by Ayinger Privatbrauerei was first brewed in 1978 to celebrate the brewery's 100th anniversary — and has been a firm fixture in the Bavarian beer firmament ever since. As a Dortmunder / Export-style lager at 5.5% ABV and 22 IBU, it pours a golden-yellow colour and opens with a slightly floral, honey-like yeast aroma that immediately invites you in. On the palate it is lightly spicy and full-bodied at first sip, mild and soft before swallowing, with a refined sparkle — and the finish reveals a perfectly balanced, subtle bitterness that rounds the beer out with elegant harmony. Conrad Seidl, Austria's celebrated "Pope of Beers", summed it up beautifully: it is a malty beer that pronounces the precious earthy quality of malted barley.
