Sudden Death - Simcoe Overload

Simcoe Overload: A West Coast Monument from Timmendorf

The guys from Sudden Death Brewing, based in Timmendorfer Strand, are known for their uncompromising approach to hops. With Simcoe Overload, they pay tribute to one of the most legendary hop varieties in craft beer history. As part of their hop-centric special releases, this West Coast IPA impressively demonstrates why Simcoe has been a favorite of brewmasters for decades. There are no distractions here, just a full focus on the resinous character and complex fruit of this iconic hop.

Sudden Death stands for beers that pack a punch – and Simcoe Overload is no exception. At their brewery on the Baltic coast, craftsmanship is combined with a good dose of ice hockey passion and metal attitude. The result is an IPA that is as straightforward and powerful as a slapshot, yet maintains the elegance and balance that characterizes a modern West Coast IPA.

In the glass

In the glass, the beer presents itself in a brilliant golden yellow to light amber, crowned by a stable, white head. The nose is immediately captured by an intense bouquet of pine resin and spicy grapefruit. Thanks to the massive use of Simcoe, aromas of dark blackberries and a fine earthiness join in. On the palate, it is pleasantly dry with a present but well-integrated bitterness. Notes of pineapple and blackcurrant provide fruity depth, while the finish remains long-lasting, resinous, and wonderfully crisp.
