It all started with this Imperial Baltic Porter. Today it is THE classic from Põhjala!
A beer as dark as Estonian winter nights (Öö means "night"). However, it is definitely strong enough to keep you warm and full of delicious aromas of roasted malt and dark fruits. Hints of dark caramel, toffee, licorice and a bit of smoke can be found in the strong and creamy body of this Imperial Porter. Fruit notes range from blackberry to dried plum. Of course, it demands its drinkers, 10.% alcohol is after all not without, but it is worth it all. Because the taste experience is unique!
The basis for success
Entering the market with a 10.5% strong dark beer - can you imagine that? It certainly takes a great deal of courage and self-confidence to launch an Imperial Porter as a new brewery's first beer. The Estonian brewery did just that. It was the first beer Põhjala ever released commercially. And it was - and still is - a huge success. It is not for nothing that it has been continuously in the brewery's portfolio since 2013.
Öö is not just for lovers of dark beers in general. It knows how to inspire all fans of craft beer! Especially in the right situation or in the right combination with food, this beer knows how to shine. Põhjala themselves show it in their taproom in Tallinn: The Öö with a strong Texas BBQ from the smoker - it just fits! Or try it with a New York cheesecake. Or with dark chocolate with salt crystals.
