Umbrella term for beers that have a subtle to strong sour character. Sour beer can be either light or dark brown. The sourness is created either by adding lactic acid during brewing or by natural lactic acid fermentation in the brewing process, by wild yeasts or by barrel aging. Some sour beer styles, such as Berliner Weisse, are world famous.
