Equilibrium Brewery – Where Science Meets Hops

Equilibrium Brewery in Middletown, New York, is one of the most sought-after craft breweries on the US East Coast – and a must-know name for every beer geek. Founded by MIT graduates Peter Oates and Ricardo Petroni, both originally environmental engineers specializing in water chemistry, the brewery opened its doors in 2016. Their approach: don't just brew beer – understand it scientifically.

The name says it all. Equilibrium stands for the perfect balance between uncompromising drinkability and massive flavor – an equation Oates and Petroni have solved through countless iterations. Beer names like MC², Photon, Fractal Mosaic or Wavelength pay tribute to physics, mathematics, and the tinkering mindset behind every recipe.

Equilibrium gained worldwide cult status for its Hazy IPAs and Double IPAs, bursting with tropical notes of mango, passion fruit, pineapple, and peach – velvety, juicy, and absolutely hop-forward. The brewery is equally celebrated for its Imperial Stouts featuring decadent adjuncts like coffee, coconut, vanilla, and maple, as well as for its experimental Sours. Their fruited sour series "There and Back Again" was even crowned Best Beer in NY at TAP NY in 2018.
